Egyptian police early Wednesday fired tear gas to disperse a huge rally in central Cairo demanding President Hosni Mubarak's ouster. Police moved into Tahrir Square shortly before 1:00am and fired tear gas canisters at tens of thousands of protesters.
Meanwhile, security and medical sources conveyed that four people were killed, including police recruits and dozens were wounded in clashes between police and the protesters during the "Anger Day" declared Tuesday by the opposition. The security source said Ahmed Aziz a police rookie died as a result of injury to the head after stones were thrown at him. Some 36 police officers were injured during the various clashes with protesters in the region adjacent to the Tahrir square and Qasr Al Aini not far from the capital.
