Clashes were reported between Fatah faction and Hamas in Bass refugee camp near the southern port city of Tyre, the Lebanese media said on Tuesday. It said a quarrel during a Sunday evening Iftar soon developed into a fight with sticks and sharp tools and then quickly turned into armed clashes. The Central News Agency said that Lebanese soldiers tightened their grip around the camp to prevent clashes from spilling out into the streets. At least three people were wounded.
The two factions announced an end to hostilities on Tuesday. "Hamas and Fatah insist they should not use violence to resolve their disputes," the joint statement said.
