Former Iranian prince Alireza Pahlavi, the youngest son of the ousted shah of Iran, has committed suicide in his home in the United States, his brother confirmed on Tuesday. "It is with immense grief that we would like to inform our compatriots of the passing away of Prince Alireza Pahlavi," Reza Pahlavi, the shah's oldest son, said.
"Like millions of young Iranians, he too was deeply disturbed by all the ills fallen upon his beloved homeland, as well as carrying the burden of losing a father and a sister in his young life."
Alireza was born in Tehran 1n 1966 and was the younger son of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and his third wife, Empress Farah Diba. Pahlavi lived in the U.S. where he received a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University, a Masters of Arts degree from Columbia University, and studied at Harvard University as a PhD student in ancient Iranian studies and philology.
