News reports said six Yemeni soldiers were killed, following an attack by gunmen suspected of belonging to al Qaeda on Friday. The ambush took place at an army convoy in the town of Lauder in Abyan South Yemen.
The attack resulted in the destruction of two armored vehicles and heavy clashes following the attack, especially after the arrival of reinforcements from the neighboring military bases. The same sources added that the attackers were riding a motorcycle and a car and they carried out their attack early Friday morning, using RPG rockets and automatic weapons and grenades.
The town of Lauder has been the scene of heavy fighting between fighters from Al Qaeda and the Yemeni army since August 2010.
