Seventeen people, including an army instructor, have been killed and more than 25 wounded in two separate accidents on Sudan's roads, government and press sources reported Saturday.
Official spokesman of the National Military Service Administration, Ahmed Omar Tabul, said four student army recruits and their lance-corporal instructor were killed and about 20 other students injured, some seriously, when their vehicle overturned in central Sudan near Um Rawaba Friday morning.
The accident happened as the students were returning from their compulsory military training, the spokesman said in a statement.
Tabul did not specify the cause of the accident.
In another incident, 12 people, including three women, were killed and five others wounded when their pick-up truck ran into another vehicle in central Sudan near Wad Medani on Friday afternoon, a newspaper reported.
The daily quoted a local police officer as saying the pick-up driver, who was among those killed, was driving too fast - KHARTOUM (AFP)
