Ahmad Al Siqa, star of the mega-hit movie Short Wi Fanella Wi Cap (Short, Shirt and Cap), hates exclusive starring roles, he would never act in theater, and is glad he disappointed his acting teacher.
In an interview with ‘Al Bayan’ newspaper, Siqa said that he is against an exclusive starring role in a film because it is always a team effort. He clarified his feeling towards film saying that this movie is a “test, and my future in the industry will be designated according to the results of this test. Meanwhile, I also consider the film comes at a difficult time.”
“This time my situation is different because I took on the full responsibility of the movie and I want to be up to the responsibility; especially since we moved from comedy for the movie. I think this movie presents romance in a new style and as long as the movie is good, I am sure it will succeed.”
Added Siqa, “Short Wi Fanella Wi Cap has laughs and comedy within a romantic story. It also has the struggle of a group of young men who headed off to Sharm El Sheikh to work in tourism.”
Meanwhile, the actor reiterated his stand on exclusivity in film saying that he “did not choose anything.”
“The makers of the movie chose everything including my part. As for exclusive starring roles, I am against it.”
The actor also verified that the Egyptian movie industry is aiming at producing a whole new line of actors and actresses, mostly young talents.
Siqa went on to say that he would never move to stage acting adding that “it is good to know your limits because theater has its own talent.”
Ironically, Siqa’s teacher in school had predicted that the actor would fail from the first year.
“His attitude led me to push myself in order to succeed,” he said of the effect of the critiscism, “and thank God I disappointed my teacher, Jalal El Sharqawi” – Albawaba.com.
