The Algerian army killed at least 14 gunmen over the weekend in Muasker province, about 380 kilometers west of the capital, Algiers, a local newspaper reported Monday. According to KUNA, "L'expression" daily, close to the Algerian authorities, disclosed army forces besieged an armed Islamic group and killed several of its members and confiscated their arms.
The same group is reported to be behind mass killings and fake barricades which targeted villagers and passengers last August and September in Muaskar province. At least 80 people were killed during the month of December and according to "Le Matine" daily a total of 1,100 were killed in violence in Algeria during 2001. (Albawaba.com)
