The Arab world is outrage following the publication of images showing Iraqi prisoners forming a human pyramid with an American slur written on one man's body, and Iraqi prisoners forced to simulate sex with each other, and pictures of smiling American soldiers with naked and humiliated Iraqi prisoners.
On his part, President Bush has condemned the "mistreatment" of "some" Iraqi prisoners, saying, "Their treatment does not reflect the nature of the American people. That's not the way we do things in America. I didn't like it one bit."
These scenes of humiliation have led to criminal charges against six American troops.
The soldiers at Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad were accused of forcing Iraqi prisoners into acts of sexual humiliation and other abuses.
According to lawyers for some of the soldiers, they claimed to be acting in part under the instruction of mercenary interrogators hired by the Pentagon.
"I share a deep disgust that those prisoners were treated the way they were treated," Bush said. (Albawaba.com)
