Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday joined thousands of his supporters who gathered in the Umayyad Square in Damascus. This comes a day after his long speech at the University of Damascus.
Today, the President told the cheering crowd: "I wanted to be with you because I belong to this street. I wanted to be with you in the heart of Damascus, the capital of the resistance and the history."
"I have confidence in the future. Without any doubt, we will overcome this plot," he added. Assad stated: "I wish God will give me (such a big) heart so I can give love for this great people." Assad also greeted the army and security forces as well as the crowd and the Syrian provinces.
The Syrian TV also aired images of the president's wife Mrs. Asma al-Assad among the crowd.
