Speaking at the World Economic Forum meeting for the Middle East and North of Africa, Ian Hudson, DuPont President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, commented on the strategies that countries in the region are implementing to bring energy intensive industries into their countries. “These strategies will bring growth to the region, but they will also bring challenges, notably related to energy availability. There is an opportunity to move towards an early adoption of energy strategies which will satisfy those demands, but will also contribute to the regional diversification of energy production. The region should not only depend on increasing production capacities of existing natural resources, like oil or natural gas, but also boost energy efficiency capabilities across industry sectors and invest in renewable energies”, commented Ian Hudson. Today’s challenge is about finding secure, environmentally-sustainable and affordable energy sources. The World Energy Outlook predicts energy consumption will increase by 60% in the next 25 years, with most of this growth occurring in developing countries. The share of renewable energy will grow to and remain at approximately 15%. Generating and storing renewable energy will be the fastest growing sector in the energy market for the next 20 years.
