Egypt's state-owned Telecom Egypt has announced that the German company, Siemens, is ineligible for the execution and operation of Egypt's third mobile telephone network, reported the Middle East weekly.
Telecom Egypt's Chairman Aqil Bashir was quoted in the report as saying that Siemens has been disqualified because it lacks the necessary experience in operating mobile networks.
Telecom Egypt hopes to begin offering mobile services by 2002 in cooperation with an anchor investor, once the exclusivity period given to the two existing service-providers, MobiNil and Vodafone Egypt (Click GSM) has expired.
Telecom Egypt had announced that it would set up a separate company with a strategic investor to own and operate the new GSM service, said the weekly. As much as 34 percent of the company would be offered to the public.
"We expect to find a foreign investor by October," Bashir said – Albawaba.com
