Israeli soldiers troops shot and killed eight Palestinians on Wednesday during clashes that flared in the West Bank and Gaza, marking the 12th anniversary of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's symbolic declaration of independence.
Israeli shot a Palestinian teenager in clashes in the northern West Bank city of Qalqilya on Wednesday, hospital officials said, the eighth to be killed on the day in the Palestinian territories.
Ibrahim Jueidi, 15, was shot twice in the chest, the officials told AFP.
Earlier two Palestinians were killed on Wednesday during clashes in the northern West Bank town of Tulkarem, hospital officials said.
Fathi Abeid, 18, died after he was shot in the heart at the western entrance of the Palestinian-run city.
Samer Khader, 29, also died after he was shot in the chest during the same bout of fighting, according to Tulkarem hospital.
The two others were killed in Gaza, Palestinian sources said.
Ahmed Basal was shot in the heart at the Karni crossing point, while the other was not immediately identified.
In Jericho, Israeli troops shot and killed Abdel Hazef Ghrouf, 20, who died after he was shot with a live round in the chest, hospital officials said.
In Jenin, Ahmed Said Shaban, 20, died after being shot in the chest during confrontations between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli forces, said AFP.
Al-Jazira TV channel reported that the sixth was killed during clashes in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Jadou’ Alekbash, 16, was shot in the chest by Israeli troops.
Clashes flared Wednesday Palestinians across the territories marked the anniversary of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's symbolic declaration of independence 12 years ago, reported AFP.
Medical officials said Israeli soldiers shot and wounded 15 Palestinians in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip near the border with Egypt after angry residents there threw stones at soldiers who had razed farmland in the area to increase visibility from their army posts, said the agency.
Six of the injured were considered in serious condition, hospital officials said.
AFP added that the panoply of Palestinian political factions held a march in Gaza City later Wednesday demanding that the Palestine Liberation Organization immediately announce the creation of a Palestinian state to coincide with the anniversary of Arafat's 1988 independence declaration in Algeria.
In the southern West Bank town of Hebron, two Palestinians were injured when the car they were driving came under gunfire, Palestinian police said. The source of the fire was not immediately clear, but Hebron has been a frequent flashpoint for violence between Palestinians and Jewish settlers.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper said that three Palestinians were wounded by Israeli border police Wednesday in the West Bank.
It said that one of the men was wounded while crossing into Israel at a roadblock near Bet Shemesh village.
His wounds were moderate, and he was taken to Hadassah-University Hospital in Ein Kerem, said the paper.
The two other Palestinians from the village of Sorif were also hospitalized at the same hospital.
Sorif is located near the Gush Etzion bloc of settlements between Jerusalem and Hebron.
The paper said that the circumstances of the shooting of the two men were not clear.
The Israeli army also reported a series of shootouts over night, said the agency.
In the northern West Bank, the Israeli army raided two Arab villages after gun battles, slapping curfews on them and making arrests.
Witnesses and Palestinian police said Israeli soldiers arrested seven members of Fateh -- six of them brothers -- in the village of Qusrah south of Nablus, AFP added.
They also said police arrested three other Fateh activists in the nearby village of Talfit.
Two Palestinians were also injured in Nablus overnight when the Israeli army fired heavy machine-guns at the Palestinian-run city, according to the agency.
At least four Palestinians were killed by Israeli troops Tuesday in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
One of those killed was stoned to death by Jewish settlers in the West Bank city of Nablus.
