Riots broke out in Tel Aviv late Monday when crowds of Israelis took to the streets “looking for Arabs,” sources told Albawaba.com.
They said that the pro-Likud demonstrators were blocking roads and burning tires in Shonat Atikva and Deir Yussef suburbs of Tel Aviv.
The sources quoted head of the area’s police department chief, Shlomo Avonishki, as saying the riots will be cracked down “with an iron fist,” the same way the security forces suppressed demonstration in the Arab cities inside Israel.
Avonishki will by next January become Israel’s police director, according to the sources, who asked for anonymity.
Riots that erupted in the Arab towns of Nazareth, Um el Fahem and Shafa Amr protesting Israeli atrocities in the West Bank and Gaza led to the death of 11 Palestinians, in addition to two others who were killed in an attack Sunday on Nazareth by extremist Jews. – Albawaba.com
