An Algerian family of four was killed when a bomb destroyed their home at Sidi Gouzil in the Media region, 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the capital Algiers, newspapers reported Sunday.
The blast at 1.00 am on Saturday killed a couple and their two children in their sleep and injured four other people.
The powerful homemade device had been planted outside the victims' home.
The radical Armed Islamic Group of Antar Zouabri is active throughout western Algeria, particularly in the Media region, which is still frequently the scene of bloody attacks on civilians.
Attacks and fake roadblocks are regularly reported in the press, without any comment from the authorities.
The latest attack takes the death toll this month in violence linked to Islamic extremism to more than 70, including 20 guerrillas, according to a tally compiled from press reports. There are fears that attacks will intensify during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which begins in two weeks.
