Turkey's Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis said on Saturday that the government had no immediate plans to ask parliament to approve the deployment of American soldiers on its soil or to send Turkish soldiers abroad if war breaks out in Iraq.
A motion the government is planning to submit to parliament will be for "soldiers who might have to come to Turkey to modernize bases in Turkey, not for soldiers who will take part in the operation," Yakis told reporters in Ankara, according to CNN-Turk news.
The Turkish Foreign Minister said that the government would ask parliament to vote on a second motion on troop deployment if it deemed it necessary, and added, "But we are not at that point yet". (Albawaba.com)
