Former Sudanese president Jaafer Numeiri said he was withdrawing his nomination form the presidential elections that will take place in coming October, reported ArabicNews.com.
Numeiri was quoted as telling the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa that "he would devote his full time in developing 'Nedaa El-Salam' (call of peace) organization."
Numeiri took power in 1969.
In 1970, he went for the national reconciliation with the Ummah Party and Islamist opposition. Numeiri applied the Islamic law in 1983. He was overthrown on April 6th, 1985 by Sadiq Al-Mahdi, leader of the Ummah party.
He remained in exile till May this year when he was welcomed back to Sudan by the present government – Albawaba.com
