Majors Atallah Issa Al Manaseer and Ashraf Ali Al Jaiousi and Corporal Ra'ed Faraj Al Khawaldeh from the Jordanian peace-keeping force were killed in the strong earthquake that hit the headquarters of the UN mission in Haiti. The magnitude of the quake was 7.0 on the Richter scale and occurred at 21.53 GMT.
According to a Jordanian military source at the General Army Headquarters, cited by Petra News Agency, 21 members of the Jordanian peace-keeping force were also slightly injured.
According to the AP, the headquarters for the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Haiti collapsed in the massive earthquake, with at least 11 peacekeepers reported dead on Wednesday, and scores of others missing. Among the missing is the chief of the U.N. mission, Hedi Annabi, who had been in the building. Annabi is a Tunisian diplomat and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Haiti.
