The Islamic Republic of Iran will decide by the end of this year whether to build a second nuclear power plant with the assistance of Russia, the director of the Russian constructor said on Monday.
Iran is to decide on the construction of a second plant at Bushehr and choose the site for the two new nuclear reactors within a period of a few months, said Viktor Kozlov, director of the Atomstroiexport company, according to AFP citing Interfax news agency.
Russia is already building a plant at Bushehr in the southwestern part of Iran in spite of objections from Washington, which fears Tehran is using the project to develop nuclear weapons.
Both Iran and Russia have rejected the US charges.
In January 2002, US President George W. Bush signaled out Iran, along with North Korea and Iraq as belonging to an “axis of evil” trying to develop weapons of mass destruction. “By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger”, Bush had said. (Albawaba.com)
