Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with Head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) Abdul Aziz al-Hakim on Monday said that Iran-Iraq ties are solid. According to IRNA, Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iran has always been seeking the territorial integrity, security, progress and development of Iraq.
Regretting the daily attacks on Iraqi people, Shiites and Sunnis, Ayatollah Khamenei urged all Iraqi factions to support Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's government to confront insecurity. He linked the presence of foreign troops in Iraq to the country's insecurity.
Hailing the role of religious leaders in Iraq on the threshold of the anniversary of the blasphemy on the sacred shrines of two of Muslim Imams, Ayatollah Khamenei said that such a bitter experience should not be forgotten. "The US was the major culprit in the disastrous event, given that such an insulting measure took place by terrorists in front of the US soldiers," added the Supreme Leader.
