Three bombings in Baghdad killed at least 17 people on Tuesday in the latest round of violence in Iraq [2].The blasts struck an Iraqi army checkpoint south of Baghdad, a military base north of the capital, and a mostly Shiite neighbourhood in the city, Reuters reported.The violence comes amid a political crisis and mass protests [3] that has pitted Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki against several government partners and amid weeks of anti-government protests in Sunni majority areas.In the bloodiest attack on Tuesday, six people were killed when a car bomb was detonated near an army camp in the town of Taji, 25 kilometres (15 miles) north of Baghdad. At least 24 other people died.Another car bomb exploded in a crowded market in the Shia neighborhood of Shula in northwestern Baghdad, killing 5 and wounding 13.
In Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad, a car bomb killed at least seven people, wounding 24.
