At least four people were killed on Monday when a suicide bomber targeted a government-backed Sunni militia group north of Baghdad, Reuters reported.
Members of the group were in the process of collecting their salaries when the bomb went off. A further 21 people were left injured by the attack.
Iraq has faced a deteriorating security situation [2] and mounting tensions over the past few months. The Shia-led government has made enemies of many from the Sunni minority with new terror laws that appear to target the community [3].
Northern Iraq has also fallen victim to bomb attacks as the Kurdish regional government and Baghdad continue to dispute who controls oil rights over the region [4].
On Sunday, police headquarters in the Northern capital of Kirkuk were targeted by bombers [5], leaving at least 30 people dead.
