London-based Islamic firebrand Abu Hamza al-Masri on Friday called for the expulsion of all Americans from Islamic countries and for all oil deliveries to Washington to be halted.
"The United States and its people are carrying out an open war against Islam and Muslims, and for this, it is illegal for (US) soldiers or civilians to live in Muslim countries," Abu Hamza said in a statement received in Dubai.
"It is not legal to provide them (the Americans) with a glut of oil, even if that means wasting our oil so it is not delivered to them," said Abu Hamza, a Briton of Egyptian origin.
"It is also good to reduce the oil price for those who adopt a hostile attitude" towards the United States, said Abu Hamza, who heads the Supporters of Sharia (Islamic law) Movement.
Yemeni authorities have repeatedly asked that Abu Hamza be extradited from London to answer for his alleged role in dispatching 10 foreigners to the southern city of Aden to carry out attacks on British and US targets.
Abu Hamza's son, seven other Britons and two Algerians were found guilty of planning a string of bomb attacks in Aden and were sentenced to between seven months and seven years in prison.
Abu Hamza has warned of reprisals in Yemen after a Sanaa court last August sentenced to death Abu Bakr al-Mehdar, also known as Abul Hassan, for leading a group which kidnapped 16 western tourists in December 1998.
