The settlers of Yitzahr are currently setting up a new colony at the site of the stabbing of an Israeli by a Palestinian on Tappuah Junction near the West Bank cities of Nablus and Salfit.
According to Ghassan Doghlous, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) official in charge of overseeing Israeli colonial activities in northern areas of the West Bank, Israeli colonists have already hired bulldozers and shovels to earmark the area next to the murder venue.
“The Israeli colonists have set up several caravans to mark the area as an Israeli colony or an outpost to be named after the name of the colonist victim, Borovsky, where Israeli families are expected to move to the new structure within a couple of days,” he told Gulf News.
West Bank Palestinian Salam Al Zaghal, 24, knifed the Israeli colonist Eviatar Borovsky, 31, to death on Tuesday on the Tappuah Junction and grabbed his gun, opening fire on Israeli soldiers stationed on the key junction. Israeli military forces took down the Palestinian attacker who was later admitted to an Israeli hospital for treatment. Israeli military forces have banned the attacker’s lawyers from meeting him.
A team of PNA officials have been gathering the owners of the land on which the Israeli colonists have been setting up their new site, demanding copies of their ownership documents to halt the hysterical reaction of the Israeli colonists.
“We will instantly lodge an official complaint with Israeli courts including the Higher Court of Justice to secure an order forcing the colonists to suspend their construction work in a new colony on Palestinian privately owned lands,” said Doghlous. “We will leave no room for the Israeli colonists to finish setting up the new colony, and the Palestinian rejection work will be completed as quickly as possible.”
“The reaction of the colonists this time has been completely different with insistence to build a new colony after the name of the deceased colonist,” he said.
“The situation remains extremely tense and difficult with aggression against Palestinians reported daily,” he said, adding that calm in the area has never been restored and the Israeli colonists have been in uproar, forcing Palestinians in nearby villages to stay indoors and move out only in emergencies.
Following the attack, Israeli colonists raided the Israeli hospital in which the Palestinian attacker was being treated. Israeli colonists have been attacking Palestinian villages, burning land and crops, torching vehicles and attacking mosques in revenge.
Israeli military forces deployed thousands of soldiers in the West Bank to defuse escalation.
