Students at the American University of Beirut, in collaboration with theCenter for Civic Engagement & Community Service (CCECS), are pleased toannounce the launch of the Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) in Lebanon for thefirst time (March 1-6, 2010) along with more than 40 cities around theworld. Since it was first launched in 2005, IAW has grown to become one ofthe most important global events in the Palestine solidarity calendar. Itincludes lectures, film screenings, student round tables, workshopsand music in response to the call of Palestinian civil society for Boycott,Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel.
Highlights include: poetry by the great Palestinian poet, Mourid Barghouti,an address by resistance fighter, Soha Bechara, a lecture byscholar-activist Natasha Thandiwe Vally from South Africa, a panel withanti-imperial activists Amer Jubran, Hana Ibrahim and Nahlaal-Chahhal, round table discussions with Green Line and Electronic Intifada,a revolutionary arts workshop with San Fransisco-based culturalactivist Juan Fuentes along with the local art collective, Jamaa al-Yad(taking place at Burj al-Barejneh Palestinian refugee camp) and aconcert, *FreePalestine!* by Shadia Mansour and Lowkey (from the UK) with Amal Kaawash.
