U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is set for Turkey this week as the next step on his regional tour, according to one Turkish official speaking to Reuters news agency on Wednesday.
Kerry is expected to discuss the Syrian civil war with Turkish leaders, who have been staunch supporters of the opposition fighters just across the border .
"Mr Kerry will visit Turkey. The date is not clear yet but possibly it will take place either on Friday or on Saturday," the official told Reuters.
The U.S. foreign secretary has been making his way around the region, discussing the problem of Syria with politicians across the Middle East.
Last week he urged Iraq to take stricter measures in ensuring that Iranian weapons planes did not use their airspace to cross over to Syria as Iran has been a major source of arms for the Syrian regime.
On his earlier visit to Turkey, last month, Kerry critcized Prime Minister Erdogan for his anti-Zionist comments .
