Iranian President Mohammad Khatami will make a state visit to Germany, Iran's leading trade partner, at the beginning of July, an official said Monday.
"The precise date will be announced later but it will be at the beginning of July after his return from China," the official, who declined to be identified, added.
Khatami's visit to China begins Thursday and lasts until June 27th.
The trip to Berlin, his third in Europe after Rome and Paris, has been planned almost since Khatami's election more than three years ago, but was blocked for months by court cases involving Iranian nationals in Germany and a German businessman in Iran.
In 1997 a Berlin court accused the Iranian leadership of being behind the murder of three Kurdish dissidents in the German capital, while businessman Helmut Hofer was held for nearly two years, at one time facing execution, for an alleged affair with an Iranian woman.
The air was cleared after Hofer was released in January and German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer visited Tehran in March - TEHRAN (AFP)
