Britain has handed over to Morocco a man suspected of belonging to a "terrorist organization", after clearing him of links with Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network, the man's lawyer said on Tuesday.
Moroccan police were currently questioning the suspect in Casablanca, the lawyer, Taoufik Msaef Benhammou, told AFP.
"A special plane carrying Abdallah Adnane Qreicha left Newcastle airport (in England) last Thursday at 1200 GMT for Morocco," Benhammou said, adding that British judicial authorities had cleared Qreicha of ties with the al-Qaeda organization.
Rabat had reportedly asked London to hand Qreicha over "because he is Moroccan and he is allegedly a member of a terrorist organization, wanted by Moroccan authorities," the lawyer said.
Moreover, Benhammou said the Moroccan authorities had not specified whether they suspected Qreicha of belonging to al-Qaeda. (Albawaba.com)
