Gunmen opened fire at dawn Wednesday on several Syrian tanker trucks in the northern city of Tripoli , wounding one person, security sources told The Daily Star.
Fares Saleh, a driver of one of seven tanker trucks transporting diesel into Syria, was mildly wounded when gunmen opened fire on him, the sources said.
The gunmen had on two occasions blocked roads in front of the vehicles – once at the Abu Ali roundabout, near the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh, and another in the Beddawi area.
Despite the gunfire and blocking of roads, the fuel trucks managed to make their way to Syria, the sources said.
Last month, several Syria-bound trucks were burned by a group from Bab al-Tabbaneh, where residents staunchly support the uprising in Lebanon’s neighbor.
