A school headmaster in the northern city of Tripoli died as he was trying to break up a clash between students , the state-run National News Agency reported on Saturday.
"Farouq Kardofaki, a headmaster at the Beddawi Public School for Boys , died after he was beaten up with a sharp object on the chest,” the NNA detailed.
The same source explained that Kardofaki was trying to break up a clash between student.
However, LBCI television said the headmaster has died of heart attack.
Kardofaki was transferred to the Tripoli Public Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The school dismissed classes and closed its doors following the incident, as a tensed atmosphere prevailed in the region.
"Security forces opened a probe in the case to uncover the circumstances that lead to the headmaster's death,” the NNA said.
While media outlets are used to covering stories about violence against students at schools in Lebanon, Saturday's event represents a first of a kind case when a headmaster falls victims to such activities.
