Libya's interim president [2], who made headlines with his quick response to the death of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, has survived an assassination attempt, AP reported on Monday.
Mohammed el-Megarif, who lived as a fugitive overseas during the time of ex-dictator, Muammar Gaddafi [3], told state TV that he was left unharmed despite gunman opening fire on his hotel in Sabha [4] on Saturday.
However, three of his bodyguards were wounded during the incident.
Libya has faced a serious security deterioration since the ousting of ex-president, Muammar Gaddafi, in 2011. The recently elected government has struggled to get armed groups to hand in their weapons and kidnappings have occured across the country.
