Libya's interim president , who made headlines with his quick response to the death of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, has survived an assassination attempt, AP reported on Monday.
Mohammed el-Megarif, who lived as a fugitive overseas during the time of ex-dictator, Muammar Gaddafi , told state TV that he was left unharmed despite gunman opening fire on his hotel in Sabha  on Saturday.
However, three of his bodyguards were wounded during the incident.
Libya has faced a serious security deterioration since the ousting of ex-president, Muammar Gaddafi, in 2011. The recently elected government has struggled to get armed groups to hand in their weapons and kidnappings have occured across the country.
