Lufthansa has redesigned its Facebook fan page to make it easier for fans from around the world to engage in one if its key social media platforms. The relaunched page, at www.facebook.com/lufthansa , directs new users to a “Your Area“ tab for them to choose their home country. After selecting a country, fans land on Lufthansa’s local Facebook page, where they can find information on current events and promotions in the language and country they have chosen. Facebook fans in Germany, for example, can stay updated on a current Oktoberfest promotion in Munich, where they can win attractive prizes, set up a virtual “Wiesn” table in an Oktoberfest beer tent and share tips with others.
As part of the promotion, Lufthansa becomes the first company in Germany to cooperate with the location-based social networking web and mobile application, foursquare. Users who check in at three different “Wiesn“ locations via foursquare can obtain a 20 euro voucher for their next Lufthansa flight booking.
Another improvement Facebook fans will welcome is the convenience of booking a flight directly via Lufthansa’s Fan Page. Users no longer need to switch to www.lufthansa.com , but can simply enter their travel details directly on the Fan Page and receive an immediate overview of available flight connections and fares. These services are available initially in the USA, Germany, India, Sweden, Spain, Great Britain, Greece, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. Further markets will become available by the end of the year.
The redesigned Page also facilitates easy access to Lufthansa’s other social media activities around the world. Under the “Lufthansa” tab, users can access Lufthansa’s official YouTube channel and profiles at Twitter, RenRen, studiVZ, or XING, as well as Lufthansa’s MySkyStatus travel tool.
