Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday reshuffled his Cabinet, SANA reported. The move included eight ministers - interior, information, economy and trade, justice, industry, social affairs and labor, health and awkaf.
Maj. Gen. Ghazi Kanaan the former head of Syrian Intelligence in Lebanon was given the interior portfolio, while Mahdi Dakhlallah, editor of Syrian state-run daily al Baath, will serve as the new information minister. Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Otari, who was appointed in 2003, will continue to head the current cabinet.
The other new ministers announced on Monday: Dr. Engineer Gahassan Tayarah , Minister of Industry; Dr. Maher Hussami , Minister of Health; Dr. Mohammed Ziyad al-Ayoubi, Minister of Awkaf (Islamic Trusts); Dr. Amer Hosni Lutfi, Minister of Trade and Economy; Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghofri, Minister of Justice; Dr. Diyala al-Haj Omar, Minster of Labor and Social Affaires.
