The Iranian Resistance warns about the physical conditions of a large number of political prisoners in Iran which have deteriorated as a result of more severe tortures, suppression, pressures and prevention of access to the most basic medical help. The Resistance calls on all relevant international organs to enact urgent measures to save the lives of these prisoners. Mr. Hassan Tarlani, a 23 year old student, has been sent to exile at Kerman prison for some time and is currently being held among dangerous prisoners. In recent days, individuals provoked by the Iranian regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) attacked him with the intention of murdering him. Mr. Tarlani was severely injured. He has been transferred to the prison clinic and is in critical condition.
Mr. Tarlani, whose mother and brother reside in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, was arrested in February 2009 along with a group of other Ashraf relatives in Iran and taken to the notorious Evin prison in Tehran. He was charged with Moharebeh (waging war on God), acting against national security and spreading propaganda against the establishment, and sentenced to 10 years in prison and exile to Kerman prison. The real "crime" of Mr. Tarlani is that he had pictures of his relatives in Camp Ashraf at his house. He is also the grandson of the late Hassan-Ali Safai, a merchant and supporter of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who was executed in 1981 by the ruling religious fascism in Iran.
Houd Yazarlou, a 22 year old student, is being held at Ward 4 of Gohardasht prison. He was attacked by the regime's bandits in prison on July 22. Due to the blows he received in the head, he is now in critical condition. Mr. Yazarlou also has relatives in Camp Ashraf and has been sentenced to three years in prison for visiting his loved ones in Ashraf.
The physical situation of another political prisoner, Ali Moezzi, 58, who has relatives in Ashraf and is being held at Ward 4 of Gohardasht prison, is deteriorating as a result of kidney infections. Mr. Moezzi was also a political prisoner in 1980s. On November 11, 2008, he was arrested for visiting his son in Ashraf and sentenced to 5 years in prison. As a result of tortures imposed on him during his imprisonment, Mr. Moezzi has lost one of his kidneys. His other kidney has been infected due to tortures and pressures over the last 20 months as well as polluted drinking water at the prison and lack of access to proper medical attention. He is now in an extremely painful situation.
Mr. Khaled Hardani is also held at Ward 4 of Gohardasht prison. In recent days, he was attacked by the regime's agents who used batons to beat him. He has been transferred to solitary confinement. The assailants threatened Mr. Hardani and other inmates with death.
The Iranian Resistance calls on all international authorities and human rights organizations, particularly the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and special rapporteurs on arbitrary arrests and torture at the UN, to adopt urgent measures to investigate the situation in the mullahs' medieval prisons and to work towards the unconditional release of all political prisoners in Iran.
