Syrian President Bashar Assad will pay an official visit to Washington for talks with President George W. Bush in April or May, reported ArabinNews.com, quoting a Saudi paper as saying Wednesday.
Okaz newspaper quoted Arab and foreign sources in Austria as saying that a sort of agreement on that visit was made during last week telephone call between the two leaders.
The sources told the paper that both leaders will discuss the latest developments in the Middle East and the possibility of resuming Israeli-Syrian negotiations stalemated since December 1999.
Last Saturday, Bush telephoned Assad and discussed with him the peace process in the Middle East.
It was the first direct contact between the two leaders – Albawaba.com
