Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed, reports claimed Thursday. He was reportedly found in the centre of Sirte after rebels moved in on the city for a final assault. Fighter Mohammed Al Bibi told reporters that the toppled ruler had pleaded 'Don't shoot, don't shoot' and surrendered.
However it is unclear if Gaddafi was executed or died after suffering wounds to the legs. It is understood that his body has been taken to hospital in the city of Misrata.
Rebels said he had been armed with a golden pistol when he was found and was wearing a khaki uniform.
The commander of TNC military forces stated Musa Ibrahim, spokesman for Gaddafi, was detained. Image of the body of Abu Bakr Younis Jaber, the commander of the armed forces of Gaddafi was also published. There were conflicting reports about the fate of Gaddafi's son Mutasam. Some reports said he was killed with his father while other reports claimed he was arrested and transferred to Misrata.
The hunt to capture Gaddafi's other son Seif al Islam is ongoing.
