Police in the southeastern Polish city of Rzeszow seized 1.2 million zlotys (306,000 euros, 262,200 dollars) in counterfeit bank notes contained in a school textbook bound for first grade children, Polish media reported Saturday.
The book, My School, contained high quality reproductions of 10, 20 and 50 zloty notes (2.50, 5.00, 12.65 euros; 2.20, 4.40, 10.90 dollars).
"They are very good quality copies," Rzeszow Prosecutor Beata Kosciak was quoted as saying on TV2, but the police still need to check if the paper was the same as used to make bank notes.
There was nothing printed on the notes to indicate they were reproductions.
Police seized the textbooks after a man tried to pass one of the notes.
The 15,000 textbooks contained 45,000 counterfeit bank notes.
Only one small shipment of the books had already been distributed to libraries in the central Kielce region -- WARSAW (AFP)
