Hard hit Sinai pipeline struck by more militant attacks, seven policemen wounded

Suspected Islamist militants [2]attacked a police patrol along a pipeline in the Sinai Peninsula [3]on Friday, leaving seven policemen wounded, according to Egyptian security officials, AP reported.

Unnamed intelligence officials told the news agency that the routine police convoy of four vehicles came under fire [4]near Egypt’s border with Israel in central Sinai.

The pipeline the police were monitoring, which transfers natural gas to Jordan, has reportedly come under attack more than a dozen times in the past two years. [5]

In December, Egypt offered to boost its supply to Jordan following complaints over the interruption of supplies due to pipeline attacks.

Officials told AFP on Friday that several of the policemen, including a high-ranking officer, were seriously wounded.
