Sudanese and Eritrean leaders held a first round of official talks Wednesday night in which they pledged cooperation in political, security, economic and cultural domains, state-owned Sudan Television reported.
Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail was quoted as saying that the talks between Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Eritrea's Assaias Afeworki were held "in a cordial atmosphere", with the two men expressing willingness to cement their ties.
He said that, while President Afeworki would meet with Sudanese political figures and visit a new industrial complex and the Khartoum refinery of Sudanese oil, members of his delegation would meet with their Sudanese counterparts to discuss issues of common interest.
According to the program of the visit, the two men will have a one-on-one, closed-door meeting Saturday just before Afeworki flies home – KHARTOUM (AFP)
