The Syrian Theater Dance Group is currently getting ready to perform a grand presentation called Malhat Finiqiya (A Phoenician Nightclub).
The show will include a medley of songs and a dance theater, with a great emphasis on visually and vocally aesthetic points.
According to Al Bayan newspaper, published in the UAE, the presentation, despite its title, combines comedy and tragedy.
The type of dance is an innovative move to combine modern and classic ballet as well as modern and expressive dancing.
The performance, mainly a duet, will attempt to transport its audience to the Phoenician era, through the portrayal of its traditions and its every day life.
The dance will also depict the strength of evil.
Creator of the dance, Mahmoud Abdul Karim, said, “I think that the Syrian person is still a Phoenician in spirit to this very day. He still derives his dreams from that era. The Syrian man is still Arab and Phoenician at the same time, I guarantee that. I do not, however, mean that the Phoenician is not an Arab; in fact, he is the old Arab who lived along the coasts. The Arab Phoenician fought the battles, played the role of a messenger, and refused to just live life as it was handed to him.”
The play consists of two acts that together last for 90 minutes-Albawaba.com.
