Three U.S. Marines were killed in Iraq's western Anbar province on Thursday, a US military spokesperson said. The deaths were reported as U.S. troops fought resistance fighters in the city of Fallujah, which is located in Anbar. F-18 fighter jets dropped several bombs in the city, while tank and machine gun fire could be heard to the south.
According to the AP, The deaths brought to 1,325 the number of American troops killed in Iraq since the invasion in March 2003.
Meanwhile, three Iraqi civilians were killed in a mortar strike on the Ashra Mohammadia mosque, used by Sunnis in west Baghdad, police said. Three people were also wounded in the attack, AFP added.
