To say the least, the technical manager of the Tunisian football team, the Italian Scolio, is very concerned these days.
So far, his players have not put on a stellar performance during the 22nd African Nations Cup. And it shows in the results, beginning with Nigeria stomping them 4-2 and continuing with a lackluster 0-0 tie against its Moroccan neighbors.
Chances of Tunisia now qualifying for the quarterfinals are slim at best.
And if that isn't enough to weigh on Scolio's mind, add this: The coach is afraid that the leading teams, Nigeria and Morocco, are in cohoots to rig their upcoming match to ensure a tie. This will secure their place in the next stage, and effectively kill any hope Tunisia may still have. Scolio believes that if one of these teams loses, Tunisia can qualify.
Regarding the 0-0 tie against Morocco, Scolio told al-Ahram daily that this outcome only benefited Nigeria.
