The UAE police have foiled attempts by two gangs to circulate counterfeit banknotes worth Dh3 million ($817,000).
A senior police officer told Gulf Today that the first case dated back to late July, when the police were tipped off that someone planned to circulate various fake bills.
He said that an undercover agent had presented himself as a customer. The three accused were then raided and 719,000 Saudi rials, $9,000 and devices and substances used in forgery operations were seized.
In the second case, the officer continued, counterfeit notes worth $500,000 were seized from three people following a police crackdown. The accused were Africans and Asians – Albawaba.com
