UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, is scheduled to hold a new round of talks in Gaza Wednesday with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, advisor Nabil Abu Rdeineh told AFP.
It will be their third meeting since Annan's arrival in the region late Monday. Annan held talks earlier Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, their second meeting in 24 hours.
Barak's spokesman, David Baker, said in Jerusalem that they had continued their discussion of the day before on ways of restoring calm to the Palestinian territories and securing the release of three Israeli soldiers captured by the Lebanese Hizbollah movement.
Neither man made any statement following the meeting.
Annan is expected in Beirut later Wednesday for talks with Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud, following which he is expected to head for Damascus for talks there, according to a UN source.
Annan arrived in the region on Monday night in an effort to try to broker an end to the violence that has cost nearly 100 lives and left some 2,000 people injured - (AFP)
