A British woman has described how she was held captive in her villa for 30 minutes by an armed intruder who said he 'just wanted to talk' to her, the Emirati daily Gulf News reported.
The 37-year-old British woman, who lives in the Al Quoz area of Dubai, was quoted as saying she was alone watching television when she noticed someone peering into the room last Friday lunchtime.
"I thought I heard a noise so I looked up and saw a man peeping through the door which was slightly open," she said. "I jumped up and started shouting at him but he ran into the room and started shouting back.
"He produced a large Swiss army knife and told me to shut up or he would kill me. I was hysterical but when I saw the knife I decided the best thing was to calm down and do what he said.
"He said he just wanted to talk to me and wouldn't harm me. He was asking me what I was watching on television and I managed to keep talking to him to keep him calm. I asked him how he got in as the outside gate was locked, but he just kept insisting it was open.
"After half an hour I told him I wanted to get a drink from the kitchen. He followed me and stood in the doorway watching. I asked him if he wanted a Pepsi and he said 'no thank you'. After the initial threat to kill me, he was quite polite and seemed well educated which just made the whole thing totally surreal," she said.
"As I came back from the kitchen I saw my chance and managed to run out of the house, unlocked the gate and ran out into the road screaming for someone to help.”
She said she saw the man, who is described as Arab and around 25 years old, jump over the garden wall seconds later, so she eventually went back inside her home to call the police – Albawaba.com
