Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made the contentious decision to leave Rooney on the bench for their Champions League clash against Real Madrid last week, which they lost amidst controversial circumstances, the Sun reports.
Fergie was forced to deny reports it signalled the end of Rooney's time at Old Trafford, claiming the 27 year-old would be offered a new deal when the time came.
However, Beckenbauer, who is Bayern's honorary president, admitted that he would be very happy for Rooney to ply his trade at the Allianz Arena.
Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, who would take the reins of the German giants next season, is known to admire Rooney, and he once described him as one of the greatest players in the world.
The Spaniard might also be willing to stump up the 20 million pound plus for the striker, but United director Sir Bobby Charlton insisted that Ferguson has said that he has no intention of letting Rooney go. (ANI )
