Capello quit the post following a row with the Football Association in February, and Roy Hodgson was appointed as his successor.
The former Liverpool boss would take charge of the Three Lions against the Azzurri in Sunday's Euro 2012 quarterfinal, and De Rossi claims if Capello was still present then his team would have been more worried.
"Capello on the bench can scare you. With all respect to their actual coach, he [Capello] is extra special," The Daily Mirror quoted De Rossi, as saying.
"At Roma, he took me from the youth team to the first team and with him I became an Under-21 international, ready for the national team. To say that I owe him everything is not enough," he added. (ANI )
