Reports surfaced this morning that Liverpool are believed to be entertaining a move for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen.
With Daniel Agger believed to be unsettled by the signing of Dejan Lovren and the Dane believed looking to a move to Barcelona, a transfer that has been discussed several times in recent summer transfer windows, the Reds are looking at other veteran options.
Vermaelen had major issues maintaining a first team place last season at Arsenal, but his versatility at the back is what is believed to be attractive to Brendan Rodgers whom likes players that can play in a variety of positions and in a variety of styles.
Agger likewise struggled with first team placement last season as his injury struggles continued to hamper his place as the new vice-captain having taken up that role from the retired Jamie Carragher at the start of last campaign.
Liverpool are believed willing to offer Arsenal £12 million for the Belgian as Agger is expected to earn the club £12 million if he does indeed depart for Barcelona.
Vermaelen is also thought to be a target for Barcelona as well as Italian side Fiorentina and continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.
