Manchester United manager David Moyes' chase for FC Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has taken another turn today as Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has admitted that Fabregas future lies completely on the Spaniard's decision.
The comments from the newly appointed Barcelona manager will give Moyes and Manchester United hope of being able to secure their man. Barcelona officials have remained firm that Fabregas was not for sale, rejecting several offers made by Manchester United.
Martino, when speaking to FC Barcelona's official site, has now changed the club's stance on the player, saying that the future of Fabregas will be decided by the player himself.
“I would prefer him to stay with us and I dare say he will, but it’s his decision,” Martino said.
“He is one of the best players in the squad. I think he will stay. But there’s a part that he has to decide.
“Cesc will decide the situation, but it has not occurred to me that I won’t be able to count on him.”
Fabregas and Barcelona played host to new signing Neymar's former club Santos in Barcelona yesterday. The Catalan giants put on a show for their home fans, thumping the Brazilian side 8-0. Fabregas scored twice.
With the World Cup right around the corner, Fabregas will certainly be looking to secure as much playing time as possible this season. Though Barcelona do look quite keen to hold on to their man, the Spaniard would be one of Manchester United's most important men if he did make the switch.
This morning, Barcelona flew to Tel Aviv as part of their Peace Tour where they will stay till Sunday. The club's officials and players will put on several clinics and interact with the locals.
