Manchester United could be without star striker Robin van Persie for six more weeks according to the Daily Mail. The Dutch international suffered from a similar injury during his time at Arsenal and could be out until February, with David Moyes having sent his star man back to Holland for treatment with at PSV Eindhoven.
Van Persie's last appearance in a United shirt was as a substitute against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on December 10th. In 2007, Van Persie experienced a similar injury at Arsenal and missed matches from December 16th to March 9th, but specialists say the injury is quite unpredictable and the Dutchman's return could come before six weeks.
United find themselves in experiencing quite a difficult time at the moment. Reports stated yesterday that Wayne Rooney has been sent to Egypt to enjoy a couple of days in the sun with a fitness coach to help him regain his match fitness.
Van Persie did struggle from injuries often during his time at Arsenal but enjoyed an excellent final year in London before making the move to Old Trafford. Last season, he managed to get through much of the year injury-free to help lead United to the title, but it seems as if his his body has let him down again.
With injuries to Van Persie and Rooney, United are missing their two most influential players in the attack. Three losses in a row to Tottenham, Swansea, and Sunderland have made it evident that Moyes' best players are certainly missed.
Today, United host Swansea again, this time in the Premier League, and will be looking to get back to their winning ways. Moyes could enter the transfer market and bring in some reinforcements for his squad that has struggled to find consistency this year.
Despite starting the month of December with a draw and two losses in the Premier League, Moyes was able to flip his side's form around and earn six consecutive wins in the Premier League and Champions League combined to finish out the month.
Three 1-2 losses in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Capital One Cup have made United's start to 2014 a tough one to cope with for many Red Devils fans, but things could change if Moyes does enter the market and bring in some talent to help bolster his side.
United currently sit 7th in the table and host Swansea today in the Premier League's late game.
